Marx's critique of “eternal” political economy: how Mill is alien to Marx's attacks

Marx deplored political economy's claims to establish “eternal” – or “natural” – laws. This paper seeks to defend John Stuart Mill from his critique. It argues that, contrary to what Marx alleged, these two economists have a great deal more in common on this topic than is frequently realised. Both on the theoretical level and on the political one, Mill's views about the relativity of capitalism seem very close to Marx's. This paper also suggests that Marx may have ignored Mill's insistence on the relativity of economic theories because it may have challenged his own “scientific socialism”.     

Towards a cohesive curriculum tourism: The case for a distinct discipline

This paper addresses a controversial topic in tourism scholarship which is simultaneously a problem and an opportunity in tourism education: the philosophical issue of academic disciplines and specifically, the question of a distinct discipline in tourism studies. It is argued that the orthodox approach to tourism education, multi-disciplinary studies, has become an impediment. It is suggested that a new discipline can be created by organizing the existing body of knowledge and that such a discipline can become the core of an inter-disciplinary approach. Certain characteristics of an embryonic discipline are outlined and innovations in this area at Sydney Technical College are discussed.     

Appraising and Evaluating PFI for NHS Hospitals

This paper explores the use of appraisal in the development of proposals to use private finance to provide acute hospitals under the Private Finance Initiative (PFI). It addresses the extent to which value for money (VFM) and affordability (which must be satisfied to enable a scheme to be approved) are demonstrated in the documents prepared by hospital Trusts. It identifies a number of issues (such as the transfer of risk and the development of public sector comparators) that pose new problems for investment appraisal, which are specific to its application to PFI.     

Ludic and liminoid aspects of charter yacht tourism in the Caribbean

The behavior of charter yacht tourists in the British Virgin Islands can be viewed as a symbolic expression and an inversion of the central sexual and social ideologies of the tourists' home culture. The paper analyses the behavior as a form of play, following Huizinga and Norbeck, and in terms of liminality and communitas, following Victor Turner. The conspicuously “anti-structural” mores and behavior allow the tourists licensed suspension of everyday rules, while reinforcing the latter. The tourists' image of the Caribbean as a sensual playground and the hosts' image of the tourists as self-centered and frivolous are established and perpetuated in this liminoid context.     

“家庭氛围型”激励模式的构建——激励知识型员工新途径的探讨

知识型员工的作用和地位已日益得到彰显,但以往专家学者的激励模式中仍存在不足,本文在“以人为本”的理念基础上,建立了“家庭氛围型”激励模式激励知识型员工,以期实现员工、企业与国家之间的多赢。     

基于“两型”指标的两型社会综合评价研究

运用基于"两型"指标的核心评价指标体系,采用基于熵值法的综合评价模型对我国两型社会建设进行了评价。研究结果显示:两型社会建设水平持续提升但呈现阶段性特征:2000~2007年间建设水平很低,2008年达到较低水平,2009~2010年间达到一般水平,2011年则达到了较高水平;两型生产指数、科技发展指数较大且持续增大,而两型消费指数、两型流通指数、生态建设指数均维持在较低水平,生态建设指数还呈现2000~2008年间持续下降的局面。这表明我国两型社会建设水平提高主要得益于两型生产水平和科技发展水平的提升,而两型消费水平、两型流通水平尤其是生态建设水平亟待提高。     

“好”的不确定性、“坏”的不确定性与股票市场定价——基于中国股市高频数据分析

不确定性并不是都是“坏”的,“好”的不确定性也同样存在。本文采用Barndorff-Nielsen et al.(2010)提出的已实现半方差作为股票市场“好”的不确定性和“坏”的不确定性的代理指标,并在此基础上构建了相对符号变差(RSV),分析RSV对中国股市定价的影响。基于2007-2017年中国A股5分钟高频数据的实证研究发现:(1)与理论解释相一致,RSV与股票收益之间呈现负相关关系。无论是基于单变量分组、双变量分组还是公司层面的截面回归,这种影响在经济上和统计上都显著。(2)RSV是独立于已实现偏度的一个重要定价因子,且RSV对股票的定价能力强于已实现偏度的定价能力。(3)RSV对中国股市的影响是状态依存的,相对于经济景气程度高的状态,在经济景气程度低的状态下RSV定价影响更大。(4)基于RSV构建的投资组合的表现明显优于市场超额收益率组合、SMB组合和HML组合的表现。     

非遗保护中政府角色和路径研究——以壮锦为例

生产方式和生活方式的变迁使得非物质文化遗产在民间的自发保护传承难以为继,而市场化道路也导致了这种保护传承面临危机。党和政府是民族优秀传统文化的忠实传承者和弘扬者,因而在民族优秀传统文化或非遗保护传承工作上,必须将自己定位于主角,做领导者和组织者。要从非遗对象的静态、动态和意态几个层面,从实物保存、技艺传习和精神内涵阐发等角度实施全方位的保护,走立体保护传承路径。     

企业科技创新行为中的阻力与化解

企业科技创新行为的阻力源中,企业的管理者、基层科技人员与组织因素这3个阻力源产生的原因是不同的,而旧有“个人契约”的修改是化解管理者与基层科技人员阻力的有力工具。但是在“个人契约”修改的过程中,企业领导者对创新行为的态度、表现,领导者与企业成员之间的沟通与动员,对企业成员的教育与培训等等措施的实施,同样是十分重要的。     

基于“红”、“白”两大支柱产业研究新疆特色农产品品牌

本文采用SWOT模型和定性与定量相结合的分析方法,针对新疆"红"、"白"特色农产品,发现品牌建设中存在地理劣势、人才劣势、产品结构劣势及品牌推广劣势的问题,并提出相应的建议。
